Currently, women in Switzerland reach retirement age at 64, men at 65. With the implementation of the AHV reform, the retirement age for women will be aligned with the retirement age for men. For women born between 1961 and 1963, transitional periods will apply from 2025 (e.g. a woman born in 1961 will reach retirement age at the age of 64 years and 3 months; a woman born in 1962 at the age of 64 years and 6 months). If a person retires before reaching retirement age, this is called early retirement. This often turns out to be more expensive than expected, because considerable reductions in benefits from occupational pension plans and AHV are to be expected. In addition, income gaps must be covered until retirement age, which requires careful planning.
